This notice explains what British Material Unit (“BMU”, “we”) does with personal data collected through britishmaterialunit.com. We are the data controller. You can reach us at [email protected] or Unit U, Wrexham Road, SS15 6PX, England, United Kingdom.
Form submissions are delivered by a third-party form service, which handles the message in transit and passes it to our inbox. Our email is hosted by a third-party provider. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, whose servers log requests, including IP addresses, for security and operation. These providers act on our instructions or as controllers of their own infrastructure logs; we do not sell or share your data for advertising.
We name our partners on this site and link to them: Ramco, whose Operation Upcycle initiative is at operationupcycle.co.uk, East West, and the sourcing, development and remanufacturing partners shown in our footer. They are separate organisations and we do not control what they do. Following a link to one of them takes you off this site, and from that point their own privacy notice applies rather than this one — we have no sight of what they collect or how they use it. Naming a partner here is not an endorsement of their data practices, and you should read their notice before giving them anything. We do not pass your data to a partner unless you have asked us to put you in touch, and we will say so at the time.
Data may be processed outside the UK by the providers above, protected by the safeguards their terms provide. We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it and for our own records, and mailing-list addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
Under UK GDPR you may ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or erase it, object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw consent, or ask for it in portable form. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our answer you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
We set no advertising or tracking cookies. Some pages remember small preferences — such as garments you have bookmarked in the archive — in your own browser’s local storage. That stays on your device, is not sent to us, and clearing your site data removes it.
If this notice changes, the revised version appears here with a new date above.
These terms govern your use of britishmaterialunit.com (the “site”) and any enquiry, request or order you place through it. British Material Unit (“BMU”, “we”) operates from Unit U, Wrexham Road, SS15 6PX, England, United Kingdom. Using the site means you accept these terms.
BMU sources, archives, remanufactures and circulates surplus defence textiles. The site publishes an archive of garments and materials, describes our operations, and lets you register interest or request material.
Archive records — photographs, references, dates, attributions and provenance — are published in good faith and revised as we learn more. Dates and attributions are often inferred from markings and construction rather than documentation, and may be corrected without notice. Nothing in the archive is a warranty of origin, age, specification or condition.
Goods are ex-service surplus, sold as seen. Wear, repair, fading, unit markings and previous alteration are inherent characteristics of the material, not defects. Where a garment is graded, the grade is our own assessment. Material intended for remanufacture is not sold as serviceable protective equipment, and must not be relied on as such.
The site, its design, the BMU mark and all archive photography and written records are ours and may not be reproduced commercially without written permission. You may cite or link to archive records for research and editorial purposes with attribution.
Do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a volume that degrades it for others, or misrepresent your identity when contacting us. We may withdraw access for any of these.
The site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law we exclude liability for loss arising from reliance on archive information, from unavailability of the site, or from any use of surplus material beyond the purpose for which it was supplied. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing here affects the statutory rights of a consumer.
We may amend these terms. The version published here is the one in force, and the date above is when it last changed.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
