Operation Upcycle — reutilising surplus textile waste via reverse engineering.

Ramco's national sustainable initiative Operation Upcycle sees military surplus upcycled from Britain's Ministry of Defence by designers across mainland universities. Our focus within driving the research and development of this project lays in the reverse engineering of garments and extracting of integral metadata to create a system which allows for repeat production runs. We're assisting in determining how much of their textile assets are reusable, where deficiencies are created and how design can be a solution to establishing a regenerative design model from an out-dated linear disposals sector. In tandem with the initiative, we're developing MarshalOS, a garment to garment remanufacturing software which will allow designers to access details and metrics on all sorts of surplus to circulate with more intention.
