Dutch Army 1990s Waxed Jungle Bag Cover
NLA1990WJBC
A waxed cover that goes over a pack rather than carrying anything itself — the waterproof layer a Dutch soldier pulled on when the weather turned, in the Netherlands' own woodland camouflage.
It is a single panel of waxed cloth gathered on an elastic that runs the whole way round its mouth, so it draws itself tight over whatever it is stretched across and holds there without a fastening of any kind. Laid flat and empty it falls into the shape in the photograph: the elastic pulled into a ring in the middle and the fabric standing in folds around it. The camouflage is printed on the face only; the wax is what makes it dark and heavy to the hand.
Dated by the holding it came out of rather than by a label.
